It's late June 2026 in Phoenix, which means one thing: it's hot — triple-digit, plan-your-day-around-the-AC hot. The good news is that some of the Valley's best things to do are fully indoor and gloriously cool. Here are 10 ways to enjoy Phoenix right now without melting, with a link to each.

1. See the world at the Musical Instrument Museum

Inside a museum gallery

In north Phoenix, the Musical Instrument Museum is the only museum of its kind in the country — instruments from every country, with audio that plays as you walk. Blissfully cold inside and easily a half-day.

2. Cool off at OdySea Aquarium & Butterfly Wonderland

A butterfly conservatory

Out in Scottsdale, OdySea Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Southwest, and right next door Butterfly Wonderland is a warm, walk-through rainforest full of butterflies — both fully indoor and perfect with kids.

3. Wander the Phoenix Art Museum

The Phoenix Art Museum downtown is the largest in the Southwest, with rotating exhibitions and a strong modern collection — and, crucially in June, it's cold inside.

4. Step into history at the Heard Museum

The Heard Museum is world-renowned for its American Indian art and Native voices — a Phoenix institution and one of the most meaningful afternoons in the city.

5. Get hands-on at the Arizona Science Center

Downtown's Arizona Science Center is hands-on, all-indoor, and can fill a whole afternoon — great for curious kids and adults alike.

6. Café-hop the Valley's best coffee

A cozy Phoenix coffee shop

Phoenix is a real coffee town now. Start with Cartel Coffee Lab, a local roasting pioneer known for cold brew and clean pour-overs; settle in at midtown's Lux Central for expertly pulled espresso and shared tables; or visit Songbird, a charming café in a restored 1904 bungalow in Roosevelt Row.

7. Browse books (and grab a beer) at Changing Hands

Changing Hands Bookstore pairs a beloved indie bookshop with the First Draft Book Bar — browse the shelves, then grab a coffee or a beer without stepping back into the heat.

8. Play indoors at iFLY or Topgolf

Want to actually do something? iFLY in Scottsdale lets you indoor-skydive in a climate-controlled wind tunnel, and Topgolf has air-conditioned hitting bays so you can play even when it's 110 out.

9. Catch a Diamondbacks game at Chase Field

A stadium at night

Chase Field downtown has a retractable roof and full AC, so a summer Arizona Diamondbacks day game is one of the few ways to watch baseball without baking. The Footprint Center next door hosts concerts and events year-round, too.

10. Save the desert for sunrise or sunset

When you do head outside, time it right: hike Camelback Mountain or wander the Desert Botanical Garden early in the morning or after sunset. Carry more water than you think you need, wear sunscreen, and never leave kids or pets in a parked car — interior temperatures spike dangerously fast in a Phoenix summer.
